Let’s Go Jean Shopping

by

Hey friends!! Happy Day After Christmas! Maybe you have some holiday cash or gift cards to spend? Let’s go jean shopping! I hit Nordstrom a couple weeks ago while adding new denim to my Christmas Wish List and thought I’d share some of my opinions with you! Might be helpful, might just be irrelevant; but I’m hoping it encourages you to try on a few new brands!

RAG & BONE

If you’ve been following along, you know this is my go to jean. It’s kind of hard to beat for me right now; but also pricey. These jeans are ONLY purchased when the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is on, because I get them at 40% off. And so can you!! I’ve worn these distressed ones alot, in oufits like this, this or this! I did not, however, try any Rag and Bone during this trip so I could see what I thought of a few others. But if you do fall for these, I’ve linked the two that I have here, as well as some other options in wash, waist and hemline:

CURRENT ELLIOTT JEANS

I’ve heard alot about this brand and was determined to try them on. This style is called the High Waisted Stiletto Jean. Here’s my bullet points on this style:

  • hugs around the waist AND the back
  • no back gap
  • super soft
  • stretchy
  • very comfy
  • make sure to have them pulled up as I noticed that there was a tendency for fabric to fold over near the fly, and to me that looked a bit sloppy; but could likely been fixed with a belt!
  • fits true to size

7 FOR ALL MANKIND

This brand is the VERY FIRST pair of expensive jeans I ever bought myself! Back after I had Devon, I treated myself to a flared bottom, faded and distressed pair of 7’s. They made my ass look fabulous and I loved them for it!

Here’s some points I made about this style of jean, called The Ankle Skinny during my Try On Session (and I linked these jeans and a few other styles just for good measure…and some are on sale so SCORE!!!):

  • perfect worn indigo blue wash
  • classic stitching
  • true skinny jean that will be on trend for years so a great investment
  • nice fit in the waist
  • super soft and comfortable
  • I would say this isn’t a mid rise; but not quite a high waisted fit
  • fits true to size

THE FRAME JEAN

Frame is a jean I have been hearing and seeing ALOT of lately! It’s got me super curious, so I looked into a couple of pair. What I did find out while doing my jean try on session, is that the Kardashian women wore Frame all the time, until Khloe created the Good American brand. Do NOT get all hot and bothered with me when you see the price….these can be crazy expensive, so IF you have a gift card, birthday money, holiday money or a Nordstrom Note burning a hole in your pocket, combine it with the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale and you may just snag a pair of these for an incredibly decent price!

(Sidenote, while I did NOT try Good American denim on, my Stylist friend at Nordstrom swears by them because they fit like a glove, have very little stretch; but can accomodate some “junk in the trunk” with NO back gap….sounds amazing!)

I tried two style of Frame jeans on. The first was called Frame le Skinny de Jeanne Aste:

Here are my thoughts on this jean:

  • darker distressed wash, so will look casual; but can definately be dressed up with heels
  • very stretchy
  • skinny jean with a cute and subtle distressed cuff
  • mid rise
  • snug around the waist yet stretch for a nice fit across the butt
  • fits true to size

This style is called Frame le Skinny de Jeanne Dame:

These babies were the winners for me and I promptly added them to my Christmas list! Here’s why this jean was the winner over the other three, for me:

  • dark wash and regular hem, so I can wear long, or my signature roll
  • classic, classic, classic
  • I can see myself wearing these with any footwear and since there is no fading or distressing at all, they will age with a consistent color, making them last longer in my wardrobe
  • brown stitching which I like
  • definately a skinny jean, almost a jegging with a stretch for perfect fit and comfort
  • fits true to size

Here’s this jean linked with a few other fun options from Frame:

FINDING THE PERFECT JEAN

When I talk to friends or clients, one of the things that causes the most frustration is jean shopping. What I know for sure is that it takes time to find the right fit. Not only that, it may not be easy to find that perfect fit off the rack. Back when I purchased a new pair or fancy jeans after I had Sophia, a quick trip to the tailor, and a couple of small darts above the back pockets…let me tell you. My ass looked fantastic, I didn’t have to wear a belt and I got so many compliments on how great those jeans fit me. Had I not gone and done a little “extra work” to those, they might not have been so perfect! Not only that…I still have them ladies. NINE YEARS LATER.

IN THE END

Don’t be discouraged that you don’t find the perfect fit right away. Please try them all! I know I liked mid rise a long time ago. I did try the high rise on just because it was on trend and so many others rave about it; but I found it’s just not quite for me.

Even though all the denim I’m talking about today is designer and pricey, please know I don’t say that in a pretentious way. For me, denim is part of my “daily uniform” so I like to get the good stuff when I can, so knowing what I want when sales come along, is really key. Don’t get me wrong, I also love Kenzie jeans, as seen here, here or here. This jean runs closer to the $50 range!

Hoping this was helpful for you! The plan for Method39 is to bring you useful tips and real life thoughts on fitting fashion into your everyday life, from a real everyday life chick!

xoxo Taryn
