Have you heard that phrase? Put on your 5 Minute Face? This applies to so many of us busy Mom’s, whether we are working or not, working from home or not, or just fitting it all in a day! In this post I’ll share with you what I use; but be warned, I’m no beauty expert, so I called on my new Dubai Make Up Artist friend Laure Sejean for her best tips! You can find Laure on Instagram at her handle @lauresejean. Follow her to see different makeup looks, products she loves and some of her best beauty recommendations!!
BEFORE ANYTHING!
Method39 Tips:
Here’s what I do know. Before you do any kind of makeup, you need to prep your skin, by at least cleansing it! Remove all the dirt and grime and dead skin cells from yesterday and even just sleeping last night! I use a cleansing balm, a serum, a gel free moisturizer and an eye cream before any makeup. I allow for few minutes to let that all soak in and then I’m ready to add color!
Laure Sejean’s Pro Tips:
“First things first, looking after your skin is key. Cleansing well (morning and evening) serum, eye cream, face cream based on your skin concerns, and a sun screen.”
CONFESSION: I HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT FOUNDATION
Method39’s Tips:
I don’t wear liquid or powder foundation or concealer; but what I DO know, is blending is CRUCIAL. Always ensure you blend with a damp beauty blender at the jawline and down your neck. You really don’t want there to be a drastic change in skin tone between your face and neck. Makeup is to enhance what we have, right?!
Laure Sejean’s Pro Tips:
“For foundation, when choosing it, match with your jawline and neck. Leave it on for 1-2 minutes in case it’s oxidizing and you need to choose a darker or lighter shade”
“Concealer, always a shade lighter than your skin tone to highlight key areas of the face. To actually conceal any blemishes, dark marks or any other skin imperfections, use a concealer of the same shade.”
WHERE TO START?
Method39 Tips:
For me, I’ve always started with my eyes. Shadow, liner, mascara / lashes, brows. Next is blush and I’m out the door.
I tend to use two eyeshadows max. One lighter, brighter one up by my browline and down to the corner of my eye. Let’s me pretend that I look like I’m well rested. HA! Then a shade that is complimentary to my skin tone and eye color. (I use purples to make my eyes look more green!)
After a quick Google search, I was able to find an article that is really straight forward about how to choose the shadow that BEST compliments your eye color”
“According to Keka Heron, one of the easiest ways to select an eyeshadow color based on your own eye color is to reference the color wheel, “There will always be colors that will bring more attention to the color of your eyes. In order to make your eye color pop, go back to basics, think about the color wheel. Choose the color on the opposite side of the wheel from your own eye color.”

The author breaks down all the best shades for the different colors of eyes. Not all shadows tones are created equal, kind of like when I was talking about colors that compliment you the most!
Laure Sejean’s Pro Tips:
After watching Laure’s makeup tutorials on Instagram, she tends to do the same. First she gets the base looking flawless with foundation, concealer, contouring. Then eyes, brows, blush and lips. Once that is all complete, she comes in with the highlighting and touch ups! Follow her on Instagram so you never miss the FREE makeup tips and tutorials she gives out regularly!
FLAWLESS 5 MINUTE FACE
To me, the 5 minute face is the one you would tend to wear on the regular. For meetings with girlfriends, for volunteering at school or church, for running errands. Just all the daily life stuff! Then when it’s time to show up a little more glam, a little more “done up”, then you add in all the steps to transform your look, if you want to! Heading to a Gala, your best friends wedding, date night with the hubs, or, whenever you dang well feel like it!
Giving yourself that quick makeup routine will give you that little extra color in your face and sparkle in your eye. Will have you feeling done, even if you aren’t “done up”, and just might be that little boost of confidence you need, for whatever reason!
Enjoy finding that 5 Minute Face and a huge thank you to Laure Sejean! I hope to be doing more in-depth articles about makeup with her in the near future!!
