Ladies, I’m always here to help you find your new Method to Style. We change our minds all the time, it’s definitely going to happen with our style. So here is a step by step guide to creating a look, from ME to YOU!
STARTING POINT
For starters, we are going to have a pair of pants and a sweater. And I have them on in this picture, in the most literal way to wear them, based on their function and how they were found in the store:
What do we see here? A boxy sweater. Has a little draping since it’s a nice thin knit. It’s long sleeved but I always hike them up. Cargo pant, relaxed fit. Comfy; but not overly stylish. We can’t rely on those side flapped pocket to say everything we need to say in our outfit. We can do better!!
STEP #1
Roll those hems! When we roll up our pants or have them hit us just above the ankle, it allows for more leg to show underneath, giving the illusion of skinny legs (because our ankles are thinner than the width of the pant leg) and shows we have a particular style. Not to mention it shows off our shoes WAY better!
STEP #2
Add ourselves a little front tuck. These are a high waisted cargo pant, and when we do the front tuck it makes our leg length look MUCH longer, our top doesn’t hit us across our widest part with is often our hips, and the fabric tie is a little nod to a stylish detail; but….I think we can do better. You know my rule, rarely do I use the fabric belt that the garment comes with!
STEP #3
Frickin BOOM!So I had to do a full tuck…that front tuck was looking a little too sloppy. Look at how adding this skinny belt and tucking this top in creates a much more feminine shape! I don’t often do a full tuck but, in this outfit, it allows the draping of the knit to be complimentary to the look. The belt makes the look much more “custom”. You could totally get the same effect with a bold colored belt, polka dots, almost anything! I just really love how this snakeskin color palette is crazy neutral, so goes with everything; but adds that unexpected detail.
STEP #4
TA-DAAAA! Add a patterned scarf like this, and some funky plaid boots like these! The plaid boots are super subtle so they don’t really compete with the scarf pattern, and you know my trick. When you add a really fun, patterned shoe, it can be a really easy way to add funk to your look, without a huge commitment. This look not for you? How about this one?
A simple mixed metal multi strand chain for a necklace, gold bracelets, watch with brown leather band, my super neutral beige bag, and brown suede oxfords! Still not quite right? How about this:
Can we PLEASE makes sure neck scarves come back?! I love how the navy and soft pink of this fabulous scarf works with the bright color of the sweater. I’m telling you ladies, try EVERYTHING together! You just never know what you new fave combo will be. I added a little dressier suede heeled sandal (the fringe on the back is so Fall), and my neutral bag. Someone, clearly, needs to take me to lunch in this. Still not loving it? What about this?
I mean…..what is not to love? Leopard print heels, big chunky statement necklace, perfect brown leather jacket, gold watch and I haven’t decided on a bag quite yet. STILL not sure?! Well, that’s all I’ve got for now; but you know you can add a fun fashion sneaker to this outfit with a denim jacket and you will be nailing that everyday style as you head out to the buy your Halloween decorations (and sneak a peek at the early Christmas pieces because you cannot help yourself. I KNOW YOU….and I absolutely love you).
Happy #methodmakeover
