Can we just all say a collective AMEN, that high fashion in bringing both Bermuda Shorts and Gaucho pants are BACK! And when I say that, my observation is when high fashion does it, it takes some time to trickle down for affordable fashion. So I look forward to longer shorts for more than just one season.
THE SHORTY SHORTS
While I KNOW there are many women out there who can rock the ripped up, short denim shorts, and there is NO SHORTAGE of choices, sometimes it’s nice to have other options. Even if a person has rockin’ gams, not every woman wants to show their whole leg while running through the day.
BERMUDA SHORTS ARE BACK
Now I know, if you are like me, you are flashing back to the 80’s (or at the very least to Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman!); but I assure you, they’ve been given an update!
The biggest thing to remember with a longer hem, is that you want it to be proportionate to your leg. Just like in the article I wrote about being Petite, if they are too long, then it translates as they are too big for you. I’m loving these styles below from StyleFavorite.com!
DETAILS TO LOOK FOR
When going for a longer short, like a Bermuda, look for a flat front, side pockets, and the ability to add a belt with belt loops. You might want to add it as just an accessory to finish the look, or for the purpose of holding them up. Remember, flaps on the back pockets will add a little extra to you backside, so that’s a great tip for ladies who feel like their butt “falls flat”.
All fabrics are different. Try to avoid one that wrinkles easily. Actually, that’s a good tip for any shorts, especially if you are out and about, in and out of the car, all day. A firmer, structured fabric that is comfortable, will also hold it’s style as you run through the day. I tend to like the fabrics that J.Crew, Banana Republic, Gap and Old Navy. I find there are more flowy, thinner fabrics at Zara, H&M, Forever21 or stores similar.
TRY SOMETHING NEW
So for the newest take on the bermuda shorts, anything goes. Denim, linen, bold color, big patterns, high waisted, above the knee, at the knee, tailored, loose and flowy. Friends, you can customize this look to suit YOU, and when it fits your Method to Style so well, you can wear it for seasons to come! Its not always the length of short, or other specific trend look, it’s how you interpret it to fit for YOU. Then….it becomes timeless.
AND DON’T FORGET TO LAYER
I created a Pinterest Board called Bermuda Shorts 2019, to make it really easy for you to click over and get some inspiration that speaks to you with this current trend. I love seeing them layered with a blazer. Maybe because the shorts are long enough to look like you HAVE shorts on! Bonus! Or the bold colors mixed with patterns. So fun and summery!
EMBRACE THE LOOK!
I think there are a ton of women out there who avoid shorts altogether, because they are always so short. Not only that; previously, bermuda shorts almost translate as for an older generation; but as you can see in the Pinterest board I made, that is NOT the case! If you don’t love to show off your upper leg, or much of your leg at all; but struggle to feel comfortable in anything other than capri’s or denim, this style is for you! They can be comfortable, allow for modesty, show your classy fashion sense; but still be chic and fun!!
I encourage you to at least try on three different types of this style to see if you love it on you! Go with no intention to buy, just TRY. Take some pics, come home, go through your existing wardrobe as well as get some inspo online, and you just might have yourself a new look this summer!
