High & Low Fashion. What’s that actually? For my Method to Style, it’s combining EITHER high end or fancier pieces, with more casual pieces, to create the perfect combo, that’s totally YOU!
SEPARATE YOUR CLOSET
When you are organizing your closet for the season, I also recommend setting apart your higher end / investment pieces / fancier items. Not to keep them out of the way; but to see what you have, and consider how to incorporate them into your outfits! Yet, not all the time, as they are your high end pieces, likley because of the cost, the fabric, possibly the brand, and the maintenance (dry cleaning!) But I still think there is a place for them more often than just your special occasions.
WHAT DO YOU WEAR THE MOST?
Is it a pair of jeans? (GUILTY!) A specific color? A particular style of top (racer back tank for summer?) Maybe it’s things that are ready to be retired, or not even make you happy to wear anymore; but “they will do”?
WHAT DO YOU WEAR THE LEAST?
The heels? The smart blazer? The blouse that makes you feel amazing? The dress (little black one or otherwise)? Maybe it’s a statement necklace or other accessories?
NOW ADD IN ONE UPSCALE PIECE WITH YOUR EVERYDAY STYLE
This can be as simple as adding heels and a statement necklace with your everyday jeans and knit sweater.
Or a super sparkly chunky necklace with a plaid shirt! Or a silk blouse with jeans.
Adding fun flat sandal, and maybe even a cute summer fedora, to your favorite dress. Put a Target graphic T with your pleated skirt and summer flats or runners. It’s all about sneaking in something NOT so casual, to your outfit of the day! Accessories are awesome for this….and, THEY ALWAYS FIT!
SPEND SOME TIME MIXING IT UP
Obviously, if you are running after littles, you may not opt for putting on your beautiful silk blouse, or fab heels as you hit the grocery store; BUT, you could consider a really fun high / low mix for date night? Wear those comfy jeans or joggers; but jazz them up. You’ll love how fast you can pull together a really amazing look, and your date will appreciate you getting dolled up for a night out! We recently attended a dinner at the Dubai Opera, and instead of shopping for new, I grabbed my navy Zara joggers and a luxurious silk top from the Designer Consignment store + super sparkly heels and a red satin clutch I’ve had for years! (see main photo) No stress and crazy comfortable….the perfect combo for an evening out!
USE WHAT YOU’VE GOT
Maybe you don’t have any plans on the calendar that you NEED anything like this; but wouldn’t it be great if something came up and you were READY for it! Saving you TIME (no standing in the closet and wanting to cry because you have LITERALLY NOTHING TO WEAR!) and money (no rushing out at the last minute to impulse buy something that might not be quite perfect or versatile; but you have no time to be picky).
OH, AND P.S…..
Ladies, it’s ok to want to look “dressed up” when nobody else is, and definitely on a totally random day. It’s ok to put an extra few minutes into how you put your outfit together, whether you are currently prioritizing the kids, or just telling yourself it isn’t necessary for you. You are a pretty amazing creation. Look how much you do in a day, how many people you connect with or interact with! We know you have a sparkling personality but sometimes throwing a little sparkle on our sleeve, is an ok thing too. Do not be afraid to shine sister…the world needs your light!
