Well Style Lovers, it’s social distancing and casual quarantine style advice! We may be at home; but I don’t think that means we don’t get dressed. Let’s face it, there is a novelty about not having to get ready for anything; but pajama’s can feel like failure after about three days. We can get through this time at the house, when we have no pressure to put ourselves together, and create some new looks for when things….I don’t know…improve? Go back to normal? I mean, what do we even call it when this ends?!
CASUAL JOGGERS
Ok, we love comfy when at home right? Well, if you don’t have yourself a pair of joggers, that might be something to keep your eyes open for when you are in a position to buy some new things. They are super comfortable, roomy, stylish with their details, and can go from day to night. I’ve worn these black polyester blend fabric Zara ones a few times, so here’s a couple of ways I dressed them up or down (aside from the main photo for this post):
Just giving a close up of how you can add a big sparkly statement necklace with a casual T to give it an instant upgrade in style; but keeping it casual and comfy to wear.
I took them and created a new take on a black suit with a boyfriend jacket, untucked button up, SAME sparkly statement necklace and sequined heels. I will say, this fabric, while synthetic, never fades, shrinks or stretches out of shape, so they always look sharp and almost totally wrinkle free any time I go to wear them. Even if I had them folded on my closet shelf. Bonus when you are in a rush to get out the door looking sharp.
Here’s an example of another pair of joggers, and I chose to pair them with a fabulous silk blouse and sparkly heels for an upscale event. It was so great to wear comfy pants because we ate a really rich meal. The elastic waistband made me very happy that night! haha! Now, these are different fabric. Cotton and while they are lighter and cooler than the black ones, they wrinkle and have slightly faded (as cotton will) with washes. Even when I’m making sure to wash in cold and dry on low or hang to dry. So if I want to wear these, I often have to iron or steam them so they don’t look like I grabbed them off the chair in the corner of my room. Which I NEVER do! (yes, yes I do that…gah!)
CASUAL QUARANTINE ALL THE WAYS
When it comes to pants during this social distancing / shelter in place time, it’s ideal to be as comfortable as possible; but honestly, we can still look put together, right?! Joggers are the perfect happy medium between jeans and sweats. They have a style element to them that shows you care, they are comfy (often with elastic waistbands). You can throw on a plain black, white, grey, colored T, a graphic T, or a button up with the sleeves rolled up. Your top can be slouchy (my preference), off the shoulder, or tucked all the way in.
Whatever your style, joggers can be dressed up or down, no matter where you are. Don’t let the cargo style pockets or casual material fool you. These can pack a lot of style punch, and go from running errands through the day, to kicking back with your man when the kids are finally in bed, and having you feel just a little more pulled together.
I EVEN OVERDRESS IN QUARANTINE
I know my hubby loves me no matter how I look; but he likes it when I put a little extra effort in. I know my kids don’t need me to get dressed to love me and need me. But I DO know, they love to hug someone who smells clean and wearing clean clothes. I mean, wouldn’t you? Especially while we are stuck at home! And ladies, let’s be honest, getting dressed and wearing something that makes us feel confident and pretty, no matter where we are going, (even if it just the kitchen with a field trip once in a while to the living room), is good.
There have been plenty of days where I do nothing but skin care, and put on the same outfit as the previous day. BUT, I always feel a little better when I “get dressed”. When I curl my hair and put on a fun outfit. Turns out, I’m still one to overdress, even in Quarantine! We’ve all got the time to go through our wardrobe and try new things paired together. What better way to try out a new look, than going through the motions in it at home! So when we do get on the other side of this, you might have a few new outfits to wear out, and haven’t had to spend a dime!
PS. EASY ON THE RETAIL THERAPY
I just want to put this out as my public service announcement. Now is not the time to go online shopping for retail therapy. I know, it’s hard when all your favorite bloggers are still showing off new outfits, telling you about sales, and you feel like you are in a hole, and it’s boring, and not at all pretty, so you need to get yourself something. Not so fast girlfriend. Unless you’ve gone through your closet and done a Review and Refresh with me, or on your own, you need to put the credit card down. No sister, this is not the time to buy more “stuff” to make you feel better. When it comes to finding your Method to Style, you need to make sure you are buying the right things, not just “cute and cheap” things.
Your money is better spent on necessities, saved for future rent and bills, and of course, groceries. Be wise, spend time with what you have. Always start with what you’ve got, before you add on more. Read through my style tips here on the Blog, be an intentional shopper, and always feel free to message me for specific style tips! My email is [email protected]. I’m here for you. We’ll get through this looking stylish, while being savvy with our Style Dollars, girl!
