One of my favorite ways to share about how to lean into your own personal Method to Style, is to make it all about you. Your look that is. Don’t take your outfit so literal, or be afraid to add your own personal flair to it! Let’s take this jumpsuit for example.
MAKE IT ALL ABOUT YOU IN THE DETAILS
One of the things I notice a lot, is many dresses or jumpsuits, any one piece outfits really, often come with a belt that is the same fabric. While that’s convenient, I think we can do better. Take a look at the before of this navy jumpsuit. With it being such a dark fabric, some of the details aren’t as noticeable. The paperbag waist, tied with a navy sash is cute; but doesn’t really make it MY style. So….
I SWITCHED A FEW THINGS
You know me, and loving the details of a look. This monochrome outfit and it’s design is fun; but I added my own accessories, and made it look just a little more me. This is what I want to encourage you to do too! Don’t just take things off the rack as they are, use your creativity to make it uniquely YOU.
Let me break this down for you. I switched out the blue fabric sash for my skinny faux snake skin belt. It adds color and texture; but also makes it very clear that I have a waistline, which is key for creating an hourglass shape. The neutral pebbled faux leather bag pops off of the navy, and also coordinates with the belt but doesn’t match. That’s not a rule anymore by the way….your belt, bag and shoes DO NOT need to match!
I switched out the white leather heels from the before, to some brown faux snake skin with a patent leather toe cap. Now, you might look at this and be like, why so many words, they are brown shoes?! Nope, they are added color and texture, things that sets it apart from anyone else. Every different fabric you thoughtfully layer into your outfit, that is different, creates dimension and a detail to catch the eye. ALWAYS a good idea!
It’s just a few small changes to the original look; but you know what? This is how we make our style look effortless. We put effort into the details. I encourage you, and challenge you, to go back into your closet and find things you have been wearing “literally”, and try it a few different ways! Always start with what you have before you go out and buy anything else. Intentional shopping is the best use of your Style Dollars. You might find that you only need pieces or an accessory or two, not a new outfit.
