Style Tips - The What/Why/How Versatility is KEY

At Least Three For Versatility

A quote by karl lagerfeld on the back of his jacket.

Three for versatility? Three what, you ask?! I have a rule. When I’m buying something new, it has to, RIGHT NOW, go with at least that many other pieces in my closet! Yep, when you are on a mission to create a versatile, wear anywhere wardrobe, you can’t just go buying things “willy nilly”. If we do, we end up with things hanging in their closet that are never worn, because there is nothing to pair with it, and no money to go buy the right thing!

P.S. I grabbed that feature quote off of a Google Search, and I thought it was so fitting. If the late, and incredibly great Karl Lagerfeld encouraged us to shop wisely and with versatility in mind, then who are we to argue, right?!

SPARE YOURSELF THE FRUSTRATION

Stick with me sister, let me teach you my ways! I get that this may seem frustrating at first…how are you supposed to remember all the things you have in your closet every time you shop?! Well, when you do a seasonal switch in your closet (remember that post from just the other day?), and you have organized your closet to see all the options you have that both fit and flatter, I can assure you, it will be a breeze.

THINK BIG PICTURE

Let your mind wander for a moment to gather inspiration from all those pins you’ve pinned, or styles you’ve seen on the street!

PANTS / TROUSERS

Do these pants go with three different tops you own? Like a T-shirt, sweater and sleeveless tank. Great, now do they go with three completely different STYLE of tops you own? I’m thinking one casual, one dressy and one layered look.

T-SHIRTS, WAFFLE SHIRTS, BLOUSES, LIGHT KNIT OR CHUNKY KNIT SWEATER

Can that top be worn with jeans, trousers and a skirt? Great, now can it be worn a couple of different ways? I’m thinking layered, tied, full tuck and / or front tucked? Add a blanket scarf or a neck scarf? Roll up the sleeves? Button up to the top, or leave it open? Slide it off the shoulder?

DRESSES

Ahhh, that dress. Do dresses seem tricky to style differently? They shouldn’t! I love to layer with a sweater, blazer, cardigan (long or short), vest or button up shirt. ANY dress can be a versatile part of your wardrobe.

Remember how I styled this one a bunch of ways?! I encourage you to give it a try! It could be the difference of wearing it only for special occasions, or over the course of 2-3 seasons in the year! That is massive bang for your buck.

HERE’S A FEW FLATLAYS OF THREE DIFFERENT WAYS FROM MY CLOSET

Just to give you a few more visuals, aside from this post or this post, here’s some examples of how one piece from my closet can be worn multiple ways. I challenge you to spend some time in YOUR closet doing the same! You might be pleasantly surprised at new combinations you come up with.

xoxo Taryn

Look how many different colors and patterns go with this mauve V-neck T! So it can be worn alone or layered up with any of these and have a totally different vibe! (Not to mention the different washes and distressing of denim, or khaki pants, and fashion runners or suede booties…) WINNER!

I bought some premium distressed denim and created the next four outfits, that can be worn in four TOTALLY different outings; but utilize what you have in your closet. FRIENDS! ACTION ITEM COMING RIGHT UP! Any time you see an outfit I share, that you like, don’t wonder where to GET the exact pieces. Head to your closet and see if you can’t recreate something similar with what you’ve got! Then, if you are missing a piece here or there, THAT is what you add to the list to shop for!
