I know you! You looooove black. It’s the easiest to pick, put on, wear and feel dressed for the day. But what about color? In this edition of Method39, let’s get back in black. And red.
BACK IN BLACK. AND RED.
Black. It seems to have a place in every season, so that checks versatility. It can be worn in any style (classic, edgy, preppy, etc), so that checks wearability. Black on black is just easy, right? Well, what if we allowed ourselves to just add some color!
THE COLOR WHEEL
Did you know that the primary colors (red, blue & yellow) are what is needed to make every other color in the world? Black and white are actually NOT colors. When is the last time you checked out what colors, tones, shades of colors are best for you? I was reading on this one website https://30daysweater.com/skin-tone-color-theory-part-4/ (which is super random I know!); but about two thirds down the document, it gives five great tips on how to determine whether you are cool or warm, and some great color ideas for you to wear that will be really flattering!
BACK TO THE BLACK AND RED
So, after all that, black might be your favorite; but I’d love to see you be bold and add color. It’s a fact, that if you want to get noticed, red is the color to wear. Not only that, if you don’t love it up by your face, on trousers is a great choice!
THE LOOKS
I’ve created 4 looks, all similar because it’s black and red; but very different vibes, to be worn at very different occasions; but I hope to offer some color inspiration to those who love to keep the black near their face; but may want to add something new to their wardrobe. When we wear something OUTSIDE our comfort zone, with something we absolutely love, it makes it easier to embrace. At least, I sure think so!
OUTFIT 1:
- Classic white button down. This one is from Banana Republic and is no less than 9 years old.
- Classic style black button down, lightweight trench coat. I LOVE this look with the sleeves of the jacket rolled up to show off the cuff of the blouse. Just another style detail that you won’t see on everyone. (Don’t forget originality too girl, that’s YOU putting YOUR spin on that Method to Style you’re building.)
- Dark green faux suede heels. Again, far from predictable and I’d say totally okay for a Springtime through to Fall look

OUTFIT 2:
- Sheer black tunic, with loads of style details (front, collar, sleeves, cuffs….) layered over a black tank
- Gold and black sequined heels (which I bought in the second month after we moved to Dubai and I cannot tell you how VERSATILE and useful it has been to have a fab pair of sequined heels. I know! I was surprised too!)
- Burberry clutch. It adds a neutral into the look with the base color of the plaid; but also speaks to the black and red color story in a subtle way)

OUTFIT 3:
- Navy and white striped T (but a black and white would definitely work, I just don’t have one!)
- Wide neutral belt (even though these trousers have no belt loops, I like how this breaks up the look)
- Leopard print pumps (because I mean, why not? Pattern mixing…ok?!)

OUTFIT #4:
- That white blouse again from Outfit 1
- This super cool black leather moto jacket with red fabric birds sewn on (you should see the back, it’s so cool) that a friend gifted me and I will never ever forget her for it
- Fashion sneakers. Friend if you do not have a pair yet, I strongly encourage it. I love heels; but let me tell you, these just go with everything and make doing all the Mom and Brand Building things so much easier; yet still feeling stylish as we are running all over town!
