Ahhhh Friends….FALL is HERE! Even if we have another hot day, it will be few and far between. FINALLY! So break out the sweaters. But not just the tops. Sweater dress? YES please!
Meet My Missoni
Every year I wait until it is cool enough to break out my favorite Fall dress. It’s a Missoni…yeah, the real thing. EEEEE! One of the ONLY legit designer pieces I own, and it was a gladly taken hand-me-down dress from my older sister.
She’s always had amazing taste. Not only that, she has been willing to splurge on one or two GREAT pieces that will never go out of style, instead of get a bunch of trendy things. LOVE THAT! She’s WAY taller than me, her feet are bigger than mine, and she’s more of a T-shirt and jeans kind of gal. What I’m saying is I don’t get many hand-me-downs anymore, which makes this one all the more awesome.
Why I Love It
Let’s start with sentimental. It’s from my sister. I love her. I think of her every time I wear it, and text her a pic saying thank you every time I step out in it. She may be tired of it now….it’s been 6 years.
Colors! This screams Fall to me and it’s so very feminine for a knit dress. The zig zag is so classic. The black, blue, orange and cream make it stand out. I’ve paired it here with a super cool forest green suede heel (insert hearts in eyes! Remember these from my previous posts Zara Basic Collection Plaid and last Fall’s Girl Day? They look awesome with dresses OR jeans)
The Fit. This dress fits like a glove. Because of that, I feel pretty darn fab in it. Which is why I have worn it during the day for running errands (and looking good doing it). Then, last year, I wore it to a gala!
The Cut. It’s super feminine. Not all sweater dresses can pull off a flowy look. And it’s modest. Even though there is a band of black non-lined knit at the bottom, it STILL is an appropriate length to be ladylike above that. It gives the illusion of showing more leg; but not actually doing it. Gotta love those high end designers! Personally, I love my skirts to hit above my knee; but not mid thigh. My daughter is watching and she will only learn what is appropriate by doing what I do (not just what I say).
Comfortable. Who doesn’t love the feel of a sweater? And in a dress? And it’s got Fall and Spring length sleeves that still allow for a little arm to show and arm parties to be seen. You could layer it with a leather jacket and OTK boots. You could add a scarf or fur vest and ankle booties. I think the list is endless.
To Finish the Look
I have used so many different necklaces to pair with this dress! One bright with bright orange stones and gold links, a long gold pendant, and this one shown below. All from Stella & Dot.
In all honesty, I am careful what I put with it because I DO NOT want any pulling of the knit. Any necklaces with small set stones and claws around gems have to be very carefully chosen. I plan to have this dress looking pristine for as long as humanly possible. No jewelry is going to snag it on my watch! Same goes for bracelets!
For this look I chose a set of semi delicate mixed metal strands at the neck, a pretty texutred gold coil bracelet with tiny tassels on he ends, and my buttery soft black leather clutch. Lucky for you, all pieces can be found in my Finish The Look category above! I love the mix of the knit, zig zags, suede, metal and leather. All great Fall textures, mixing perfectly with my favorite Fall dress.
Here’s to Fall!
So thank you so much to my gorgeous, talented and funny as all get out, bestie Brooke Holmes for snapping a few pics of me in my Missoni Dress. It was SO DANG HOT on this day, and we tried to be quick, snagging some morning light around 9:30am. The things you do to get some great Fall pics in time for the season when it’s NOT the season! If you love her pics as much as I do, check her out at www.bmariephoto.com or on Instagram @bmariephoto
Special thanks also to The Westin The Woodlands for letting us come spend some time at your gorgeous venue. Brooke and I met at a blogger conference here earlier this year, so it was so fun to go back to where it all started. But if you are searching for the perfect conference location, getaway or staycation…look no further than this place. They have it all! Check them out @thewestinthewoodlands
Happy Fall, y’all!!
xoxo Taryn
