Neutrals fit in all wardrobes, any season, whether you work in corporate, a more casual office, at home, or love your Everyday Style. I love them even more when they are as versatile as THIS!
TODAY’S NEUTRALS :WHITE TOP + KHAKI PANTS = ENDLESS OPTIONS
These two pieces are not hard to find. In fact, you may already have them in your wardrobe so you are already off to a great start! The white top I’m wearing is from H&M’s Fall 2018 Collection, and the khaki pants are Vince from about 4 years ago. (an investment piece that continues to pay off!)
THINGS TO NOTICE ABOUT THE TOP
It’s loose and baggy. Not fitted or snug so I can move around, fluctuate a few pounds, not suck in the tummy, and material that is flowy and moves when you walk is really flattering. Not to mention, looks a little more dressy than your favorite white T. It’s a V-neck so will elongate the look, and has a short, almost cap sleeve, that is flattering for most body shapes! My favorite front tuck to show I have a waist, and give shape to a pretty shapeless top.
THINGS TO NOTICE ABOUT THE KHAKI’S
They are well tailored and fit snug; but not tight. The material is a little more structured, not loose or wrinkle easily like some styles can be. They have a built in cuff at the bottom that can look cute with heels like I’m showing, or right on track for a casual vibe. The color is super versatile, and while I’m just showing you SIX ways to finish the look with a white top, these pants will be an amazing piece to pair with: Navy, Black, Grey, Blush, Burgandy and Beige (or a combination of a few in a plaid)!
If you don’t have a pair in your wardrobe and you want something JUST as versatile as denim, consider an awesome pair of khaki’s!
HOW I STYLED THEM:
OK, SO, I came up with this idea as I ran an errand with the kids. When I looked in my closet I realized, “Wait, I have a bunch of things that could look cute with this outfit as the base!” And then I proceeded to take the pics and create the post! Sometimes the spontaneous ideas are the best, right?! The beauty of this styling, it doesn’t matter your age, shape, size or profession, these are some style tips that will work for ANYONE!
LOOK #1 – DENIM SHIRT / JEAN JACKET
I don’t have a jean jacket in my wardrobe, so I threw on this denim shirt. Either will be a perfect layer to pair with these neutrals. Keep the faux suede block heel sandals for a dressed up look, and a coordinating saddle bag to finish the look.
LOOK #2 – SWITCH OUT THE SHOES
Not a major change here; but I hear so many of you when you say heels are the worst, and you just CANNOT. These gold leather oxford runners have been worth their weight in, well…..gold! They are so great with any outfit; but are an added detail that is a little unexpected! Speaks to your Method to Style when you add in at least one item in your wardrobe that is unique.
LOOK #3 – LEVEL UP WITH LEATHER AND A BELT BAG
Switch out that denim shirt / jacket and grab the classic leather one for a chic addition. Embrace the belt bag across the chest, which seems to be the popular alternative to where you expect it to be worn. Stay with the gold sneakers (metallics are neutrals too!) so you can shop til you drop.
LOOK #3 – EASY ADD ON WITH A BLANKET SCARF AND BELT BAG
This is more of a fall color way; but you could easily find a very pretty spring time scarf to add to this. I’ve put the belt back on around my waist for this look so that the scarf doesn’t get all smashed and messy around my neck, and these brown suede oxfords are casual and fun.
LOOK #5 – NO COLOR? NO PROBLEM
Not into color at all? Go for layering more neutrals on your basic outfit; but add texture! The knit and tassels of the infinity scarf add interest, and the leather and suede on the crossbody are luxe materials over some basic pieces. Put on your fun fashion Nike sneakers and you are good to go. Run to lunch or a full day of errands, and you’ll look good doing it!
LOOK #6 – YOU’LL WALK A MILE WITH THESE BLUSH RUNNERS
This is pretty darn pared down. BUT I did want to show you how these blush Nike sneakers looks GREAT with this outfit, and you could go back to the denim jacket, a fun scarf, a sporty bag and you’ve got yourself another super cute look.
COHESIVE LOOKS
In your wardrobe, you want to have loads of ways to wear multiple pieces, without looking the SAME all the time. Does that make sense? When I see you wearing similar looks; but all finished a little differently, it will have me thinking, “Gosh, she looks so cute all the time!” You know what you like, you know how to pair it multiple different ways, yet always look like YOU. That’s why I share all these style tips! So you can take action RIGHT AWAY to help your style evolve when you are ready.
EXTRA TIP
Did you notice I didn’t wear any jewelry in this post?! One reason I like a crossbody bag with some chain in the strap, is that it can add that little something extra, that a necklace might add. The metal chain adds shine, texture and a finishing detail on your outfit. Perfect little Style Hack for those mama’s with little’s that are yanking on their necklaces all the time!
Happy Styling and show me how YOU finished off your neutral looks by sharing over on the Method39 Facebook Page!
