I recently had the chance to attend a few events from Harpers Bazaar Arabia World of Fashion. This time, I got to sit in on an interview with the designers of Peter Pilotto. This designer is new to me; but when I looked into this teams work, man, I was like, “Where have you been all my life!” And when I met Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos, I told them exactly that!
This is also one of my favorite things about fashion. There is always more to see. New-to-you designers have a way of inspiring your look . Sometimes we get caught up in the ones that everyone knows; but let’s not forget the design houses that are working around the clock to bring their vision to life. This duo actually uses technology to create patterns ON fabrics through computer design and 3D printing. This is the technique they used to designed Princess Eugenie wedding dress! Can you imagine!
NEW TAKE ON A WOMAN’S SUIT
For this event, I wanted to dress up a little bit. It WAS the closing day of Harpers Bazaar World of Fashion. So as I do, and encourage you to as well, I dug in my closet to come up with something dressed up; but a little original too. (wink!) When you work to build a wardrobe of pieces you really love, love wearing and feel like they represent your style well, the hope is that you can create a fab look for any occasion. ESPECIALLY on short notice! Black suit it is!
MAYBE YOU HAVE THIS LOOK IN YOUR CLOSET TOO!
Joggers have been really popular for years, and there are tons of colors, styles and fabrics that these come in. It’s super easy to wear these causally, or be dressed up as well! If you have some and you’ve only styled them casually, maybe try dressing them up a bit.
These black cargo style joggers are from Zara and truly the most comfortable. Sometimes when we dress up and it looks GREAT’; but as the night goes on, we kind of can’t wait to get out of it…am I right? Dressing up joggers solves all those problems! And because it’s a little unexpected, might turn a few heads, in a good way!
OFFICE WEAR TO EVENING WEAR
Pair with a crisp white button up, untucked and the collar left inside the jacket lapel. Again, an untucked shirt and joggers! Literally low maintenance and easy to wear all evening! (Just make sure it’s well pressed before wearing!) And I also like showing the full sleeve of the shirt under the shorter sleeves of the jacket. Office wear to evening wear at its finest!
Layering it with a boyfriend blazer, which can be worn equally as well with denim as it can with a dressy pant, makes it a super versatile piece to own. It’s got the same impact as a great suit jacket, and can be totally office appropriate; but because it’s longer, has gathered 3/4 sleeve length and doesn’t close in the front, makes it a great item that can crossover from the office to weekend wear. I would look at boyfriend blazers for years, both in stores an on others, and admire them; but never got one for myself. If you’ve done the same, I suggest you get one that you have been loving, take it home, try it with what you own, and see how versatile it is! GLAMMING UP THE BLACK SUIT
Since the outfit is black and white, which is pretty basic, one way of glamming it up is to add a very sparkly statement necklace. (I have owned this one for at least 8 years and love wearing it with a tshirt, dress shirt or sweater.) One of my favorite tips is to suggest that you wear a necklace that mimics the neckline of your top.
Then of course, the sparkly heels. Not only did they definitely glam up the suit, they were a continuation of the black and gold, from my glasses, to accessories to shoes. The overall look is complimentary from top to bottom, and nods to a chic vibe which was perfect for an event like this! A night out amongst fashion and designers calls for us to show off our own personal style, wouldn’t you say?!
Other places to embrace a new take on a black suit? Girl….wherever the heck you want! A wedding. The theater. A night out to a great restaurant. A fancy girls night out. Any evening social outing really! Heck, the holidays are coming, isn’t that alone a great reason to put on some sparkle? Let it shine girlfriend!
