DID YOU SEE THE MAJOR FAUX PAS WITH THIS DRESS
Full disclosure, after I filmed all of this and was editing, I noticed a MAJOR NO NO with this dress. I almost went to re-do it; but then decided it was better used as a teaching moment, since that is what this blog is all about! So, let’s talk about how sheer this dress is! OH….my gosh.
SUMMER WEATHER MEANS LIGHTER FABRICS
Ladies, I know, summer can be hard to get through. While those light flowy fabrics are amazing, we NEED to make sure they aren’t sheer. Turns out, after 4 years of being in regular rotation in my wardrobe, this green dress either needs a slip underneath, or to be taken out permanently.
When trying on an outfit that is really thin fabric, JUST because it’s a dark color, doesn’t mean it won’t be sheer. When I try this dress on in regular lighting at home, it’s barely noticeable that its practically see through. When I walked up to my ring light, which would be very similar to being outside in natural light, WHOA BABY. It left nothing to the imagination. I don’t know about you; but I’d be mortified if that happened to me while out and about or at an event.
FEELING ALL STYLISH
Wouldn’t that just be a buzzkill if you were feeling all stylish and cute; but everyone else could see right through you. Your dress that is. BAHAHAHA…pun intended!
Sheerness aside, just look how a few simple tweeks to accessories, footwear and layering allows this staple piece be wearable for all kinds of occasions, in almost any season! I encourage you to see your dresses with a new set of eyes and use this post as inspiration to try something new.
AGE APPROPRIATE
Let’s be honest, as we get older, we really wonder what we can get away with, what works for our style, and if dressing stylishly at all is behind us. I assure you there is fantastic style at EVERY age; but what I do find, when I’m building and teaching about building a versatile wardrobe, classy is always in style. So, that said, anything sheer, especially on the bottom half, really won’t send the message you are looking for. Not as a professional, a mom, an entrepreneur…none of it.
I know the term age appropriate makes us think of our parents or grandparents (why I DO NOT KNOW!). As we age, we know ourselves better, or are just discovering the things we love! And when we own a wardrobe that is representative of that, well, we feel 10 feel tall as we go about life. I personally think my style in my 40’s is THE BEST it’s ever been! And if you can’t say that, stick with me girlfriend, I’ll teach you the ways!
