I know, you look at the things in our closet and think, I’ve got nothing to wear! Or you are tired of the same combinations that you always wear.
SHOP YOUR CLOSET
One of the best things you can do, before setting foot into a store to get more, is try to see your clothes paired differently. Take this skirt for example:
I have to be honest, I bought it without knowing where I would wear it. Then when we got invited to the Meydan Horse Races, I figured it could translate as dressy with this silk top, very awesome Valentino shoes I got at the consignment store here (eeee!) and of course, a facsinator! This outfit was SO much fun to wear. Yet, I now had it in my head that this skirt was only for dressy occasions.
That said, when we went to Texas for the summer, I did wear it with a less dressy, black ribbed tank and my brown suede block heeled sandals for a more day time look.
THE CASUAL YELLOW DENIM
I love the slouch and volume of this snap button denim shirt. I say denim; but it’s pretty much a mustard yellow chambray, making it incredibly soft and comfortable to wear, yet flowy and not structured. The V neck is always a favorite for showing off necklaces and elongating a look, the pockets give great detail to the front of the blouse. Extra Style Tip, if you are a little less endowed, like I am, having pockets on the front of your blouse can add a little extra to that area….just sayin’.
When I got this top I only imagined I’d wear it with denim, a front tuck and cute shoes. Like this:
AND THEN I DISCOVERED THIS….
So, this is why it is so important, in my opinion, to have a Pinterest Board. As I’m pinning all the looks I love, which all happen to be long skirts and tops with boots for Fall, I’m thinking of this skirt. Man, I want to wear it; but I don’t want to always wear black. I can pair all kinds of colors with it just because of what is in the pattern of the skirt; but I didn’t think I had anything that would work. Then I decided to shop my closet, and thought, wait, mustard and the gold in the pattern might be close enough!! And look at that, it worked! Check it out:
Now, I’d do just about anything to pair this with some knee high, leather, pointed toe black boots, and they are ON THE LIST for Fall; but since it’s still very much open toe shoe weather here in Dubai, these seemed to work. Honestly, I also could have put them with my white Nike Cortez runners with the gold swoosh!
NOW IT’S YOUR TURN!
So your challenge, your action item for today, is go in and shop your closet, and create an unexpected pairing! Don’t forget accessories…does it need a belt? A scarf? Maybe tie your shirt instead of tucking? Try it on, see if you like it, or if you like the IDEA of it, just not with these exact pieces. Maybe an item needs to go on your intentional shopping list; but take the time to make sure whatever you DO ADD follows the Three for Versatility rule!
Soon, you can shop your closet with ease, because with every style tip, you are finding YOUR Method to Style!
