Versatility is KEY

The Look – Mother’s Day 2018

A pair of shoes and dress on the floor.

Mother’s Day….one of my favorite days that I could never celebrate if it wasn’t for marrying the Love of my Life, and creating two awesome humans with him. Look what we made together! (The image of all of us is not downloading properly at the moment, so I will update as soon as I get it fixed!)

MY MOTHER’S DAY LOOK

I don’t usually buy a new outfit for Mother’s Day, since we typically go to church, then spend the rest of the day at home. But this year I had found this gorgeous, dark and almost moody floral print, off the shoulder, maxi dress at Target. I mean, if I’m going to wear florals, THIS is how I want to do it!

FINISHING THE LOOK

If you’ve read a few of my posts, you may see a trend where I love to finish a look with accessories. And that doesn’t just mean jewelry! This metallic leather belt is the perfect addition to this dress. While it helps to define my waistline, this trick also helps break up the pattern or dress as a whole, even just a tiny bit. PLUS, it hides the elastic waistband that is built into the dress. There is nothing wrong with these; but I have avoided wearing them because the look doesn’t seem “finished”. Well, this belt solves that problem!

MAKE IT FLOW

I could have went with any metallic here; but this one worked well with my mixed metal pendant necklace and neutral shoe. Black might just disappear too much on this pattern, and something bright and colorful might not connect with the smoky blue and burgandy color scheme. Sparkle, yes, bright yellow or coral….maybe not.

Experiment with your dresses and jumpers. Maybe a skinny belt is all you’ve needed to feel amazing in it! Heck, it might even become a signature part of your style….you never know!

MATERIAL MATTERS

One thing to note here….since this dress was $27.99, there are some things that will be missing. While it does have pockets (I’m pretty sure that’s what sealed the deal for me to actually purchase it), there is no lining. Friends, please be aware, that when you have a flowy, thinner fabric, ESPECIALLY on the skirt, you are potentially going to run into an issue with the sun, or the indoor lighting, shining right through it. Darker fabrics like this aren’t as obvious; but it would be awful to be at an outdoor event, one a beautiful day like it was on Mother’s Day, and you end up showing off more than you intended. Believe me, it’s happened to the best of us…did you ever see this shot of PRINCESS DIANA! I’m here to help you avoid this mishap.

Just honoring the girlfriend code here….depending on the event you are going to, consider a half slip with a dress like this (because there is a slit up the front to just above the knee). It would allow for modesty without changing the look at all. Girls night or date night, not a big deal…..brunch with the inlaws after church, might be appropriate.

SET YOURSELF APART

Your style is what will set you apart from anyone else that were to wear the same outfit as you. Maybe another stylish gal would prefer a statement necklace over this pendant, a slightly wider woven belt, and some fun strappy flat sandals. EXCELLENT! The dress is truly just the first step and initial layer, to YOUR Method to Style. How you do your hair, adding some sparkle and color can light up your eyes, make you stand taller, realize you look pretty darn put together, and girl, THAT is where the magic happens. Your inner glow, knowing you feel great, from the inside out, is what I believe is a big part of this process.

PS

I couldn’t link the exact dress; but it was in store, so if you are loving this one, try to get to your nearest Target to find it! I’ve also included some really great belts and a few fab shoes too!
