Easter season is always powerful. How can you not be moved by the dedication of Jesus to do God’s Will even when it meant he would bear so much pain and give himself as the ultimate sacrifice? Or even just take it from the eyes of a mother, where Mary stood at the foot of the cross, as her son took on the sins of the world? So many misunderstood who stood before them and treated him with disgust, when He was there for their salvation. And yet as soon as he spoke the words, “…it is finished! And bowing his Head, He gave up His Spirit.” – John 19:30, all who believe are forgiven. Forever!
One of the most moving pieces of literature for me this past weekend at our services, was a letter that our Lead Pastor read. It was written by Dr. Bob Moorehead and is an excerpt from his book, “Words Aptly Spoken”.
It reads:
“I’m part of the Fellowship of the Unashamed. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I’m a disciple of His and I won’t look back, let up, slow down, back away or be still.
My past is redeemed. My present makes sense. My future is secure. I’m done and finished with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheap living and dwarfed goals.
I no longer need preeminence, lavish wealth, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don’t have to be right, or first, or tops, or recognized, or praised, or rewarded. I live by faith, lean on His presence, walk by patience, lift by prayer, and labor by Holy Spirit Power.
My face is set. My gait is fast. My goal is Heaven. My road may be narrow, my way rough, my companions few, but my Guide is reliable and my mission is clear.
I will not be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded or delayed.
I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice or hesitate in the presence of the adversary. I will not negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.
I won’t give up, shut up, or let up until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, and preached up for the cause of Christ.
I am a disciple of Jesus. I must give until I drop, preach until all know, and work until He comes. And when He does come for His own, He’ll have no problems recognizing me. My colors will be clear.”
Tell me that doesn’t get your heart RACING?!!! This particular passage was one that had so much passion in its words we were all hanging onto every part of its message as it was being read out loud. As our Pastor shared, according to Dr. Moorehead’s son, a man in Africa who was murdered for his faith, had a copy of this prayer on him when he was martyred. Which reminds me……Say a prayer right now that you are able to live a life in full commitment to your faith without being persecuted for it. I hope these words light a fire in that faith for you, and give you the strength you need when you are tested.
